A good road‑trip list isn’t going to be perfect — it’s about being comfortable, prepared, and able to enjoy surprises along the way
Here are the basics I’m packing
This is probably one of the most important items to pack on a roadtrip, a map. Cell service can be spotty in different parts of the country so an offline map or paper atlas is a must. I’m packing Rand McNally 2027 Road Atlas.

Hotel Safety
A lot is talked about when it comes to hotel safety, especially if you’re a solo woman traveler. There are potential hidden cameras, attempted door openings and of course bed bugs. Here are some items that may make your stay more comfortable.

- Printed copies of reservations either for hotels, parks or camping sites.
- Cash. Some experiences along the way (or emergencies) may not accept plastic and having cash on hand prevents any setbacks.
- Raincoat/umbrella
- Power bank for phones and other electronics
- Reusable shopping bags to hold dirty clothes/shoes, memorabilia or trash.
